Likes & Dislikes about Portsmouth?

For me there is not much to dislike about our great city that I've lived in for more than 50 years.

Two-sentence testimony:

I was very privileged to have been brought up by parents and a step father who loved the Lord Jesus and loved me. I came to my personal faith in Jesus Christ in my early teens and am so blessed and grateful to know the God of the Universe as my loving heavenly Father.

Likes & Dislikes about Portsmouth?

I totally love Portsmouth and believe God has great things for the people of this city. Perhaps I'm biased but I don't have any dislikes!

Two-sentence testimony:

I was brought up in a Christian family, but realised in my teens that I needed my own relationship with God and not rely on my parents faith. I had an amazing encounter with God that gave me exactly that....., my own personal relationship with God, through all that Jesus had accomplished. Life is great with God in control!

What do you do Monday to Friday.

I work in public transport, serving the people of Portsmouth, Havant and surrounding areas. Shift work means I do this at weekends as well!

Family

Our daughter has recently left University a successful independent young woman. Penny and myself enjoy home DIY and gardening, and trips out on the scooter.

Likes & Dislikes about Portsmouth?

Portsmouth is a fine city, full of history and diversity, although its geography means traffic can be testing! I haven't lived anywhere else and wouldn't want to.

Two-sentence testimony:

God became real to me in my twenties, although I believe He has been guiding my steps all of my life. His timing is perfect and He loves us all unconditionally.

What do you do Monday Friday?

Well, I probably do more now that I’m retired, than when I worked full time. If I’m not in London spending time with my family, then I’m busy in Portsmouth seeing family and friends. I am part of CAST (Christian Assemblies in Schools Team) working with other Christians in the city doing assemblies in Infant and Junior Schools.

Family, kids, pets, hobbies?

I have 2 daughters and 4 lovely grand-children who live in London. I’ve had my fair share of pets over the years, but now I have the privilege of looking after my friends pets throughout the year, so I get to enjoy them without the responsibility. I do enjoy knitting, and crochet, but never seem to have enough time to do this, and I really enjoy cooking and socialising!

Likes & Dislikes about Portsmouth?

I am Portsmouth born and bred, and really love the seafront. My one dislike is the traffic and parking. It seems easier to drive and park in London at times!

Two-sentence testimony:

I grew up in a non Christian family and didn't know God until I was about 30. I was desperately unhappy, and my sister-in-law told me about Jesus, so I asked Him if He was real to help me. He did and I know He's real, as shortly after He miraculously freed me from smoking the 30 odd cigarettes a day that I had been so addicted to for about 15 years. I love God, His word and His people.

What do you do Monday Friday?

Monday's and Tuesday's I don't work and so spend my time doing 'house jobs'. This also enables me to spend more time with the Lord.

Family, kids, pets, hobbies?

I have 3 sons, 3 daughters-in-law and 4 grandchildren; 2 girls and 2 boys. I don't have any pets but I do love watching the birds in my garden as they gather around the food station. I don't have a particular hobby but I do enjoy gardening. There's nowhere better than the Garden to speak to God.

Likes & Dislikes about Portsmouth?

I love that Portsmouth is an Island (Portsea Island) and that it is easy to find a place to relax whether in parks or by the sea. I can't say that I don't like Portsmouth but, as with any city it has its problems with crime, whether alcohol or drug related.

Two-sentence testimony:

I once was blind to the reality of God but I am thankful to my Saviour that He took me out of the darkness and brought me into the light. He promises that when we call on His name He will answer - I called, He heard and over a period of time He turned my life round. Now I'm the right way up.
